Pier Eight, The Lowry

The Lowry

Start & Completion

July 2016 -

November 2015

16 weeks

In May 2015, following a competitive tender process, Styles&Wood was awarded the contract for the extensive refurbishment of the existing bar/dining area of Pier Eight at The Lowry.

The project was located within The Lowry, an iconic building at Salford Quays, which houses two theatres, a cafe, shop, exhibition space, teaching and workshop areas.

As a premier leisure destination, the building remained operational throughout the works.

Works included extending in two locations onto the external terraces facing the Manchester Ship Canal.

Internally, the provision of a new staircase to the promenade, conference facilities, an open kitchen and a new entrance were also completed.

As a feature within the bar, a tree was installed to commemorate the history of the area with the leaves made out of cotton, to represent Salford Quay’s history with the cotton shipping industry. Other decorative features included an illuminated centre column, textured wall paper and ceramic floor tiling. All the lighting within the bar/restaurant is programmable including diming and changing colour.
Julia Fawcett OBE, Chief Executive of The Lowry Theatre

“We’re absolutely delighted with the outcome of this project, the new extension has created a range of beautiful, elegant areas for socialising and corporate entertaining that will offer more to the community here in Salford Quays, as well as becoming a destination location in their own right.”
